A recent study published in Lancet Child and Adolescent Health showed that children up to 14 years of age are more likely to experience at least one long-lasting symptom of Covid 19. The study was based on the national level sampling of test samples acquired from Children in Denmark divided into two groups i.e., the Covid infected group and the Non-infected group highlighted the significance of long-lasting symptoms as an indicator of long Covid among children.

The study also showed that infected children experience at least one symptom of Covid 19 for two months or longer in comparison to the control group. The study results further showed that in the group of 0-3 years old, 40% of children experienced symptoms of long Covid, when compared to control (27%). Similarly, in the 4-11 - and 12-14-years age group, the ratio was found to be 38% vs 34% and 46% vs 41% for infected children and the control group for both the age groups respectively.

However, a positive outcome was seen among the 12-14 years age group, as they had a higher quality of life score and lower anxiety scores. This was likely linked to the awareness regarding societal restrictions and the impact of the pandemic on everyone.
