  • While there have been studies to show that higher physical activity is related to slower kidney function decline, however, it has not been proven through larger clinical trials.
  • A study was conducted to assess the effect of a moderate-intensity exercise intervention on the rate of estimated glomerular filtration rate per cystatin change in the elderly. The results of the study showed that when compared with health education, physical activity, and exercise intervention reduced the decline in eGFRCysC among those leading sedentary life in a community setting.
  • At 2 years, declines in GFR were considerably lower in the intervention group than in the control group; the risk for rapid eGFR decline was also significantly lower in the intervention group.
  • It is recommended for the clinicians to consider targeted recommendations of physical activity and moderate-intensity exercise for older adults as a treatment to slow the decline in eGFRCysC.
