With the ups and downs in the number of Covid cases in the capital it was difficult to give a true picture, as per the experts.  They believed that the daily infection rates could be much higher than reported as many people were conducting self-tests with new kits. Many more infections must be occurring but the best part was that vaccination coverage in Delhi was good which resulted in no serious cases.

Dr Suranjit Chatterjee, senior consultant, internal medicine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, stated that more genome sequencing in government setups was needed to understand the strain of Covid currently prevalent and once immunized even the Delta variant caused less severity of the diseases and people were getting cured within 3-4 days without much medications being prescribed.

D. Rajeev Jayadevan, co-chairman of the national IMA Covid task force said that the positivity rate stood at 7.8% on Saturday. In Delhi, six more deaths linked to Covid were reported, but these were also declining. No new variants were recorded except the Omicron strain and in India, B.A.4 and B.A.5 are not yet dominant. Some serious cases are being reported from Europe, although the specifics have not yet been assessed. So, sampling must be carried out more vigilantly. (ETHealthWorld, June 27, 2022)
