Director of Food and Drug Administration, Mrs. Jothi Sardesai, appealed to consumers to stay alert while consulting doctors, purchasing medicines, and completing an antibiotic course while speaking at the State Consumer Rights Day celebrations held in Panaji, Goa. She stated that if any antibiotics are prescribed for an underlying condition, one must finish the course as an incomplete course can cause harm to the body and lead to antibiotic resistance.

She also cautioned people to check the best before date on food articles whose shelf life is less than 7 days. She also added that a medicine prescribed for one person should not be taken by another person and to ensure that the medicines are bought from a licensed medical store. She asked people to ensure that the doctors he/she is visiting are Registered/Authorized medical practitioners before the consultation.
