Woman dies during gallbladder surgery, 3 doctors held for Criminal Negligence
Gurdaspur, Punjab: Three private doctors have been arrested in connection with the death of a government school teacher, Mrs. Primaldeep Kaur, who reportedly died during an operation to remove a stone from her gallbladder on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harjit Singh said Dr. HS Bhatia, his son Dr. Zorawar Singh Bhatia, and Dr. Manjit Singh Babbar had been booked under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 (criminal acts committed with a common intention) of the IPC.
The police acted after they received a complaint from the deceased’s husband Sukhraj Singh, who is an officer with the Merchant Navy, about “criminal negligence” on the part of the doctors. Mr. Sukhraj in his complaint stated that to save up on payment of Rs 2,200 to the anesthesiologist, Dr. HS Bhatia injected the anesthesia into his wife’s spine leading to her death.
if this is true that without an anaesthesiologist, the surgery was performed it should be condemned strongly. but find it difficult to believe that a cholecystectomy was attempted without an anaesthesiologist.
