Senior residents and postgraduate doctors in compulsory one-year government service further intensified their protest in Telangana over pending stipends, shunning emergency services, and other routine services at 28 hospitals across the state. Ironically, National Doctor’s Day posters and banners greeted them on the day they intensified the protests.

A senior resident quoted, “had the government been serious about the welfare of the doctors, they would have disbursed the stipend dues pending for three to seven months a long time ago.”

About 698 senior residents participated and decided to continue the protests till the stipend dues are not cleared. Wednesday and Thursday saw the abandonment of elective services-both outpatient and in-patient ones. From July 1 they also boycotted emergency services.

The Telangana Junior Doctor Association supported the protests and called for the government to pay attention to their demands.
