A study published in the ‘Scientific Reports’ journal by the Nature Group revealed that only 89% of Indians are willing to be vaccinated. According to the study titled "Using the integrative model of behavioral prediction to understand COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy behavior," 11% of people are reluctant to get their shots. Out of this 11%, 3.9% of people are postponing getting the COVID-19 vaccine, 4% are unsure, and the remaining 3.1% are refusing the inoculation even though it is free.

The study included 1006 participants, out of which 63% were women and 37% were men. The study also found that the majority of responders were from Telangana (7.1%), Andhra Pradesh (8.5%), Tamil Nadu (15.5%), and Karnataka (32%).

Mr. John Romate of the Central University of Karnataka stated that vaccine hesitancy is exacerbated by a lack of knowledge and awareness about the vaccine. He added that rather than creating fear about COVID-19, health authorities should stress the positive outcomes of getting vaccinated, thereby reducing vaccine hesitancy.
