Indian Doctors save Pakistani Girl With Life-Threatening Neck Injury

Miss Afseen Gul, a 13-year-old girl from the Sindh province, Pakistan suffered a horrible injury after an accidental fall from her sister′s arms when she was just 10 months old in which her neck got bent by 90 degrees. Dr. Rajagopalan Krishnan, Apollo Hospital offered to handle her case pro bono. As an expert in complex spinal surgeries, Dr. Krishnan stated that Miss Gul suffered from atlantoaxial rotatory dislocation, probably the first case of its kind in the world.

The condition affected the patient’s childhood severely and she was confined to her house for twelve years. After three major surgeries with the main procedure performed in February, the patient can now perform her daily activities without any assistance. Dr. Krishnan said that the patient would not have survived without the surgery.
