In Kanpur, over 10,000 women choose Antara injection as a method of contraception in 2020–21 and 3,435 women used the injections quarterly in just three months from April to June of the current year. This seemed to be a more sensible and practical way to maintain the three-year interval between the birth of two children. Injectable contraceptive under the Antara program is a new method of contraception for women offering protection for 90 days and can be easily administered in the arms, thighs, or buttocks.

According to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alok Ranjan, Antara injections must be administered every three months and are effective for two to five years of contraception. Beginning on April 1, the health department would provide women beneficiaries who are taking Antara in the district with Rs 100 each dose. After a thorough examination by a doctor or community health officer, the initial injection should be given, and it should be injected by a skilled staff nurse.

A health official said that the Antara injection contraceptives were also feasible for women who are unable to take pills. Stocks of Antara injections were made available in all Community Health Centers, Primary Health Centers, New PHCs, and other health sub-centers as well as with the ASHA workers.
