Delhi airport tightens testing for monkeypox

Lt. Gov. VK Saxena suggested on Monday that travelers showing signs of monkeypox who arrived at Delhis Indira Gandhi International airport should be referred to Lok Nayak hospital. Officials stated that the airport health team′s doctors will check for travelers who have a high fever, joint pain, or back pain and refer them to LNJP if necessary.

Mr. Vikram Singhal, an additional district magistrate, stated that contact tracing will be done as well as quarantining the relatives of suspected patients and sending samples from those admitted to the hospital to the National Institute of Virology in Pune were also in line.

One case of monkeypox in a 34-year-old Paschim Vihar resident without a travel history has been reported in Delhi so far. The district administration has traced 13 contact members belonging to his family and advised them to home quarantine.

According to airport officials, a team of 150 health experts is now stationed at Delhi Airport to screen travelers for the Covid-19 virus. No decision has been made to increase the number of doctors, testing teams, or health workers at the airport. Random testing is being done on 2-3% of the international passengers on each flight arriving at IGI airport.
