The Madras High Court has held that institutionally qualified Ayush practitioners are eligible to practice allopathy along with their respective systems of medicine. Justice Teekaa Raman stated that Ayush practitioners cannot practice allopathy solely. He cited a state government circular and added that no proceedings can be initiated against any of the registered practitioners in Siddha, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, or Unani who are eligible to practice allopathy, irrespective of the modern scientific system, including surgery, ENT, gynecology, etc.

The judgment was passed to quash the complaint against homeopathic doctor R. Senthil Kumar, who was arrested by the Salem police in October 2019 for practicing allopathy. Dr. Senthil Kumar cited the circular and stated that institutionally qualified practitioners of Siddha, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Unani registered with the Tamil Nadu Board of Indian Medicine are eligible to practice their respective systems with allopathy based on the training and teaching they have received during the medical course.
