Several experts in India have stated that the case numbers will keep showing such ups and downs as long as Omicron sublineages evolve to escape the immune pressure of the human body. Dr. Anurag Agrawal, chair of the World Health Organization’s Technical Advisory Group, stated that the interplay would not create any substantial risk to the immunized population, but vulnerable populations such as the elderly or immunosuppressed people should exercise due care.

He stated that no variant has led to severe disease in people with immunity. He further added that almost everyone has acquired some immunity by infection, vaccination, or most commonly, both. According to the government’s health bulletin, on July 30, Delhi reported 1,333 cases and the positivity rate was at 8.39%.

Since the emergence of the Omicron variant, this was the third time that the cases have started to surge, and many experts have expressed that these fluctuations would continue to happen. Dr. Shahid Jameel, Virologist, University of Oxford, stated that the situation would be worrying if the hospitalization rates went up as well.
