The Delhi government has started taking action for monkeypox management as an increase in instances of monkeypox being reported in the capital. Isolation beds in both private and public hospitals are being arranged as preventive measures.

Ten beds have now been reserved at GTB Hospital, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, and private hospitals like Kailash Deepak, MD City, and Batra Hospital Tughlaqabad in addition to Lok Nayak Hospital, the largest facility operated by the state government.

On Tuesday, another Nigerian national who was staying in Delhi for some time tested positive for the virus and is undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Medical Center. With this, there have been three locally transmitted cases of monkeypox reported in the city.

Lok Nayak Medical Center already has four patients, including a woman who is also of African descent, with two confirmed cases and two suspected ones. West Delhi′s first patient has been released from the hospital.

The guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare states that if a person has a history of traveling to monkeypox-affected countries within the previous 21 days and exhibit symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes, fever, headache, body ache, rashes, weakness, respiratory problems, etc. then he/she might be a suspected case of monkeypox and full precaution and early medication needs to be taken.

Mr. Manish Sisodia, Delhi deputy chief minister, stated that the Delhi administration is monitoring the entire scenario and has made all necessary measures to respond. In three public hospitals and three private hospitals, isolation rooms have been put up in light of the current circumstances. Monkeypox is contagious, but instead of being afraid and getting panicked one should follow precautionary measures. (ETHealthWorld, August 03, 2022)
