In a weekly meeting, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) reviewed the data on genomic surveillance of Coronavirus variants. They found that at present, only Omicron and its sub-lineages are the most prevalently circulating variants across the nation.

An official source stated that the number of COVID-19 cases is rising, but hospitalization and deaths are low. He also stated that the consortium reviews the data every week, but there is no need to panic because hospitalization has not increased and no new variant has been discovered thus far. According to the bulletin issued on July 11 by INSACOG, Omicron and its sublineages continue to be the dominant variant in India. The Indian Council of Medical Research has found that newer Omicron sub-lineages are especially capable of leaping past the immunity generated by older versions of the same variant. Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, co-Chairman of the National Indian Medical Associations COVID-19 task force, stated that the susceptibility of an individual increase the longer the gap between subsequent infections, infection, and COVID shots infection or the last vaccine dose.

On Friday, the national capital recorded 2,419 new COVID-19 cases, which was the highest in six months. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded as many as 19,406 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The single-day rise of 49 fatalities has pushed Indias COVID-19 death toll to 5,26,649, the government data added. According to the data, 87.75 crores of total tests have been conducted so far. On the COVID-19 vaccination front, over 205.92 crore total vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
