An observational study of more than 1.25 million patient health records revealed that children with Covid-19 were also at a risk of experiencing epilepsy or seizures even months after being infected, as well as a cognitive deficit, insomnia, ischemic stroke, and nerve/psychotic disorders than adults.

A study published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal that examined data from 185,748 youngsters stated that the post-Covid risk trajectories in children varied from those in adults.

According to the researchers, the current analysis of 2-year retrospective cohort studies of people with Covid-19 obtained from data extracted from the "TriNetX" electronic health records network showed that the increased incidence of mood and anxiety disorders was sporadic and that there was no overall excess of these diagnoses compared to other respiratory infections.

Results showed that children were not at an elevated risk of mood or anxiety disorders six months after SARS-CoV-2 infection. But had increased risks for epilepsy or seizures, cognitive impairment, sleeplessness, cerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, and nerve, nerve root, and plexus abnormalities that remained throughout.

The researchers also cautioned that since neurological and psychiatric results were comparable during the Delta and Omicron waves, it is possible that even with less severe variants overall, the strain on the healthcare system will persist. (Timenownews, Aug 22, 2022)
