On Monday, the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) stated that they are examining the controversy around the alleged distribution of freebies to doctors by the makers of Dolo-650 mg. Last week, the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India filed a written petition in the Supreme Court pointing out to the court that the Central Board of Direct Taxes has accused Micro Labs, makers of Dolo, of distributing 1,000 crores in freebies to doctors for prescribing the medicine.

Micro Labs has rejected the allegations, terming them as "baseless". Dr. Sudarshan Jain, secretary general of IPA, stated that their member companies, including Micro Labs, followed a strict code of conduct. He added that the industry is governed by the Uniform Code of Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP). Dr. Jain added that the code prescribes a procedure for lodging and handling a complaint to be followed by the association.

He also added that during the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmaceutical companies have played an important role by consistently supplying medicines in India and across the world. IPA and associated companies were committed to providing quality medicines at affordable prices.
