Recently on Thursday, 15 additional children were sent to Mumbai by the Assam health department for free CHD treatment. Dr Abhijit Sarma, the superintendent at Gauhati Medical College Hospital and the state project coordinator, stated that while 80% of the referred CHD cases were reported at a later stage and involved infants younger than two years old, around 70% of cases that were reported early involved kids over the age of 10. He further added that one in every 120 live births has some form of congenital disorder and that without prompt treatment, infant mortality will rise.

More kids came from the Barpeta district, including one from Tinsukia, two each from Chirang and Kamrup (Metro), and two from Kamrup (Metro). 9,398 children with CHD have received free treatment under the state government′s effort since the project′s inception in 2010, according to data.
