According to a study published in the Zoonoses journal, vitamin D deficiency raises ones susceptibility to illnesses. The researchers investigated the connection between vitamin D levels and Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) infection based on a nationally representative database.

10613 participants were enrolled in the study and R software was used for all analyses. Both serum vitamin D testing and toxoplasma IgG antibody tests were performed on the participants.

37.4% of the participants had vitamin D deficiency, and 19.5% had T. gondii IgG antibody positivity. 42.3% of seropositive individuals and 36.3% of seronegative individuals had vitamin D insufficiency, respectively (P< 0.001).

Thus the study concluded that vitamin D insufficiency was linked to a higher likelihood of T. gondii infection. (News-medical.net, Aug 26 2022)
