Ahmedabad is witnessing an alarming rise in swine flu infections. The city recorded 336 H1N1 infections during the first 17 days of August, and from August 18 until Monday, additional 373 cases were reported in just 11 days.

743 cases have been documented since January of this year, including 709 occurrences just in August (till August 29). Around 70% of the 709 swine flu cases reported in August were reported from the western areas of the city, including Bodakdev, Jodhpur, Navrangpura, Paldi, Vasna, Thaltej, and Ghatlodia, while 20 cases have been reported from Naroda on the eastern side.

A senior AMC health official expressed concern that a significant portion of the swine flu cases recorded in August was in children under the age of 15. The officials said that, out of the 404 cases reported till August 18, roughly 100 included youngsters under 15. A close watch is being kept on the situation as the sickness spreads quickly in schools where kids mix more.

Further, over the past few days, 4 additional people have died from the swine flu bringing the August death toll to six victims overall.
