A recent tweet from the official account of the MP directorate of health services has issued a warning against vector-borne diseases stating, “Kala-azar, malaria, dengue, chikungunya, filariasis, and Japanese encephalitis can affect anyone.”

Usually, there are no comments from the state officials at NVBDCP about Japanese encephalitis and filariasis and these diseases were not considered of high prevalence in the state. JE specifically was limited to certain regions in Uttar Pradesh.

In 2021, malaria cases were reported to be 1688 in MP while there were no filariasis or JE cases. The number of malaria cases has already crossed the last year’s tally in June this year and is expected to rise with the monsoons and floods affecting most parts of the state. Last year MP battled with a massive rise in dengue cases. This year too, the vector control could be well stretched. While some activity has been taken up by the government machinery, it is not adequate.
