Over 28, 000 hospitals have been empanelled under the government′s Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the last four years, per a report published by the National Health Authority (NHA). Private hospitals provided 45% of the empanelled facilities.

ABPMJAY is a public-health insurance scheme introduced by the Central government in 2018, which NHA is implementing. Under this scheme, 19 crore people have been registered with Ayushman cards, and 3.95 crores have taken treatment under the scheme.

Health Minister, Mr. Mansukh Mandviya, stated that “earlier 1-1.5 lakh Ayushman cards were made daily, now 4-5 lakh are made daily, my target is to make 10 lakh cards every day.” He was speaking at the inauguration of ‘Arogya Manthan 2022’ to celebrate four years of implementation of AB-PLJAY and one year of implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

As per the NHA data, of the total hospitals empaneled, 3.8 crore hospital admissions happened under the scheme, of which 46% were in government-run hospitals. Fifty-two percent of the total admissions were male patients, while 27% of the total patients were between 45 and 59 years, and 24% were between 3 to 44 years.
