A digital solution has been launched for residents of Bengaluru to provide first aid care and medical services to people with cardiac emergencies. The QR code was launched by Manipal hospitals with the support of the civic body BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) and Bengaluru City Traffic Police. These codes can help the affected person connect to the emergency numbers with a single click. Once scanned, the link will direct the person to the ambulance services and a multi-specialty healthcare chain.

The initiative launched on the occasion of World Heart Day would enable a quick shift during emergencies. Dr. Deepak Venugopalan, Regional Chief Operating Officer, stated that in the event of medical emergencies, it is hard to have a presence of mind and remember numbers. Hence, they came up with the QR codes with the help of Bengaluru City Traffic Police.

He added that they have also rolled out another QR code that navigates people through the correct steps involved in CPR. The code explains the steps to be followed to help revive the affected person. He noted that though CPR is a life-saving technique, only less than 2% of the Indian population knows how to use it effectively.
