In the remote villages of Regdagatta and Rangiguda in Sukma district in the tribal Bastar division of Chhattisgarh, deaths have been reported due to unknown ailments. The unknown cause of the ailments showed symptoms of swelling and nausea.

The joint director of health, Dr. D. Rajan, acknowledged the deaths due to identified diseases and noted that the seasonal diseases might be wreaking havoc in the tribal region. He added that deaths have been recorded after people complained of swelling of hands and legs, stomachaches, diarrhea, and anemia.

He explained that a few doctors and staff have been sent by the health department for surveillance, inspection, and further examination. The health authorities have advised people to take proper precautions, including avoiding waterlogging in nearby areas, spraying mosquito repellents, and using mosquito nets. Although the exact figure of deaths is presently unknown, the medical staff has been instructed to treat all the patients who are found sick and get information about the reasons why deaths are taking place.
