According to Indonesia′s health minister on Thursday, 99 children have died this year, and the country is looking into the spike in cases of acute kidney injury (AKI) that can be fatal.

Indonesia has temporarily outlawed the sale of syrup-based drugs, and it has been closely examining the diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol-containing paracetamol syrups used locally to treat pediatric fever.

The government of the Gambia is also looking into infant AKI mortality connected to paracetamol syrups following 70 fatalities there. India stated that it is looking into the syrups produced by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Ltd. of New Delhi. Indonesias food and medicine agency said that such specific products were not sold locally.

The Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Thursday that ethylene and diethylene glycol was found in products at the residences of some of the patients. Several syrups used by AKI pediatric patients under the age of five included ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, either in very small amounts or where they werent supposed to be.

206 AKI kid cases were reported in Indonesia on Thursday, with 99 fatalities this year. However, the exact figure was not disclosed, and an ongoing inquiry was planned.
