On Thursday, the J&K, Health and Medical Education Department banned three doctors from private practice across J&K for violating Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs).

According to an order issued by Secretary of Health and Medical Education Dr. Bhupinder Kumar, three doctors from the District Hospital Budgam, Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sopore and Super-Specialty Srinagar Dr. Junaid Khursheed, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and Dr. Yawar Nisar have been prohibited from private practice because of breaking STGs issued by the National Health Authority (NHA).

The official sources reported that several J&K medical professionals have been found to be engaged in unethical behaviour. They said that to serve their personal interests, doctors were writing prescriptions for five to six drugs that werent necessary and were breaking the rules.

The STGs represent the general agreement over the best available treatments within a healthcare facility or system. Practically, they stand in for one of the strategies to encourage the therapeutically and financially beneficial use of medications. The recommended pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological treatments for typical health issues faced by individuals in a specific healthcare system are also listed in the guidelines.
