West Champaran, Bihar: Authorities have initiated a probe after seven women from the district complained that they were subjected to a hysterectomy at a private nursing home without consent.

Dr. Birendra Kumar Chaudhary, a civil surgeon in West Champaran, stated that a team from the health department found 11 female patients inside a hospital in the Ramnagar panchayat area during a raid. The officials found that 7 out of these 11 patients had undergone uterus removal surgery, while two or three women had C-section deliveries.

He added that rather than disturb the patients, they deputed an auxiliary midwife, two male staff members, and a security person to the victims. However, despite taking all the measures, some people related to the hospital administration were able to remove the patient from the hospital premises between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. When the officials raided the house of one of the patients, she was found to be missing there, too, but the team managed to trace her along with another female patient.

Dr. Chaudhary stated that an FIR has been lodged and a team has been formed to conduct raids against illegal private hospitals following complaints of a health racket being run in the district.
