A study published in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine disclosed that people of all ages are susceptible to long-term physical and mental health problems after contracting the COVID-19 virus.

The current study concluded that following Covid-19 infection, there is significant new onset morbidity in children, adolescents, and adults across 13 different diagnosis and symptom complexes, despite earlier research having shown that only some Covid-19 infected individuals experience long-term health problems after the acute phase of the disease.

The findings showed a 30% higher risk and 33% more chances of having documented health issues that started three months in children/adolescents and adults, respectively, compared to controls.

Children and adolescents showed common symptoms such as malaise/fatigue/exhaustion, cough, and throat/chest discomfort but higher rates of headache, fever, abdominal pain, anxiety disorder, and depression. At the same time, the infected adults were more likely to experience smell/taste disturbance, fever, and dyspnea; however, cough, throat and chest pain, hair loss, weariness, exhaustion, and headache were also more frequent symptoms.

The study concluded that while children and adolescents appear to be less affected than adults, these findings are statistically significant for all age groups.
