Noida: Five doctors from Yatharth Hospital were charged under IPC Section 304A (causing death by negligence) on the recommendation of the stated health department. The preliminary inquiry by a two-panel committee constituted by the health department revealed that the allegations regarding the delayed administration of remdesivir to a 22-year-old college student who died during the second wave of COVID in 2021 were true.

On the other hand, the management of the hospital denied the claim and stated that the doctors tried their best to save the patient. In their response, they pointed out the remdesivir shortage at the time and subsequent research that reported that antiviral drugs do not help in COVID treatment.

On Sunday, the phase-2 police station in Noida registered an FIR against the five doctors, alleging them of medical negligence in treating COVID patients. In 2021, Mr. Pradeep Sharma, the father of the patient, alleged that his son was not given the remdesivir injection on the first day of his admission to Yatharth Hospital in Sector 110 on April 30, despite the fee paid by the family for treatment. The UP’s pandemic public redress committee forwarded the complaint to the health department in January 2022. The findings of the inquiry led by Dr. Tikram Singh, deputy chief medical officer, revealed that the allegations against the doctors held merit.
