The Indian Sars-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (Insacog) revealed that currently, BXX, a recombinant variant, is the dominant sub-variant across the country. At present, BXX accounts for more than 50% of COVID-19 cases in India. However, the good news is that the severity and hospitalizations have not increased.
At present, BXX has replaced BA2.75 and is now accounting for 25–30% of COVID-19 cases.
On Friday, a review meeting was held to evaluate the COVID-19 situation in the country. The scientists revealed that in the last few weeks, multiple Omicron sub-variants like BQ.1 and BXX have been detected in the country, along with other emerging sub-variants like BA5.1.7 and BF.7.
