According to a study presented at the 15th Clinical Trials on Alzheimer′s Disease (CTAD) Conference in San Francisco, lecanemab can effectively slow down cognitive decline in Alzheimer′s patients. The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that lecanemab had an amyloid-clearing and cognitive decline-slowing effect, which will be a positive step in the treatment of Alzheimer′s.

While presenting the findings of his study, Dr. Howard Fillit, co-founder, and chief science officer at the Alzheimer′s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF), stated that lecanemab slows cognitive decline, which is welcome news for the millions of patients and families living with Alzheimer′s. He added that amyloid-clearing drugs are one part of the solution, but there remains a pressing need to develop a new generation of drugs targeting all aspects of the biology of aging. These drugs can be used to address the full array of underlying pathologies that contribute to the disease′s progression.

However, he added that this is only a start to stopping Alzheimer′s in its tracks. There is a lot of ground to cover to move from the 27% slowing effect of lecanemab to a goal of 100% protection against cognitive decline.
