On Thursday, the hospital administration department of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences organized an awareness lecture on needle-induced injuries in health settings that may lead to the transmission of HIV infection.

The event was held to observe World HIV Awareness Day. Senior functionaries and faculty members of the institute apprised doctors, nurses, and other staff about the possible risks. The experts added that awareness is the only way to keep the infection at bay.

The hospital administration also added that they have created a special cell for the treatment of sharp injuries. The cell also aims to reduce needle stick injuries and the transmission of hepatitis viruses and HIV to HCWs.
