Delhi: The 30-year-old man, Mr. Athar Rasheed, experienced multiple organ failures due to suspected medical malpractice during the hair transplant treatment at a municipal clinic. After the death of the lone provider of the family of four, they filed a police report. According to the mother of the victim, he had developed rashes all over his body and lost the use of his kidneys, following which several other organs failed, resulting in a horrible death.

This was not the first time the hair transplant treatment went wrong. In 2019, a 43-year-old businessman from Mumbai died two days after the procedure, followed by the death of a 31-year-old hair transplant patient in Gujarat from anaphylactic shock in September 2021.

According to the experts, hair transplants are not life-threatening, but treatment can go awry due to medical incompetence. They noted that using general anaesthesia rather than local anaesthesia can increase the likelihood of complications during the procedure.
