The government intends to establish a National Dental Commission by 2022 and repeal the Dentists Act of 1948 during the winter session of parliament. Dr. Mahesh Verma, vice chancellor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, stated that it is important to bring this particular NDC Bill to Parliament. The role of the NDC will be something very similar to what is being done currently by the Dental Council of India.

He added that similar to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Dental Commission of India (DCI) will be restructured into the National Dental Commission (NDC). He further informed her that there were multiple representations before the central government nominee.

Dr. Verma pointed out that in the winter session, there will be representatives from the state government, state universities, and state councils to ensure that at any given point in time, there is a small body that can work cohesively.
