According to a new study conducted by researchers from the University of Bergen, Norway, shift work and working face-to-face with others affect the risk of COVID-19 and the severity of the infection.

In the study, the researchers conducted an online survey that included 7,141 workers from 16 countries. The survey included questions about their work conditions, if they had been infected with the coronavirus, how serious the infection was, and if they had been hospitalized because of COVID-19.

The findings of the survey showed that participants who worked face-to-face with others were at a higher risk of COVID-19 infection. They also found that shift workers did not have a higher risk of getting infected than daytime workers. The researchers explained that shift workers are less likely to be exposed to viruses than day workers. However, they added that once infected, shift workers had a nearly six-fold higher risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 than daytime workers.
