The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed doctors not to use stem cell therapy for treating autism. According to NMC officials, none of the current international guidelines or studies recommend stem cell therapy for autistic people due to a lack of evidence and efficacy. The agency has warned that if doctors are found using this treatment, even for promotion and advertisement, it will be considered professional misconduct and strict action will be taken against the defaulter.

The recommendations from the NMC in response to the court case seeking directives on whether stem cell procedures should be used in autism treatment even though there is no substantial scientific evidence for the use of stem cell therapy in autism treatment

Dr. Yogendra Malik, a member of the Ethics and Medical Registration Board of the NMC, stated that stem cell therapy is not recommended as a treatment for autism in clinical practice. He explained that there is "no cure" for autism. The first step in managing autism is parent and caregiver education and counseling to help them understand, accept, and cope with their child’s problem.
