The Karnataka health department is concerned after seeing the dire Covid scenario in China and other nations. Dr. K. Sudhakar, the minister of health and medical education, said on Wednesday that new regulations would be released shortly in the state, taking into account the current circumstances.

He said that the Union health ministry has instructed the states to provide samples of all new Covid cases for genome sequencing in response to new variants being discovered in other nations.

The minister said that certain nations, notably China and Japan, are seeing an abrupt increase in instances. Hospitalizations are increasing in China. As a result, more concentration should be given on booster dose coverage. According to the Center′s recommendations, steps have been taken to send samples for genome sequencing to identify novel variants. He said the Chief Minister would preside over a meeting to discuss the following measures.

The Center is always keeping an eye on the events worldwide, and are ready to handle any situation, he said.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is worried about the influx of foreign visitors for Bengaluru′s New Year′s and Christmas celebrations. It is encouraging people to wear masks in public spaces such as malls, theatres, parks, the metro, bus terminals, train stations, and airports.
