An official source revealed that the central government is closely monitoring all the exports of products used for COVID management, such as PPE kits, masks, ventilators, and medicines like paracetamol. The source stated that the monitoring is to ensure that all the measures are in place to deal with any emergency and account for any sudden spike in COVID cases.

The issue of closely monitoring these products was brought up in the recent inter-ministerial meeting attended by ministers from the departments of health, commerce, textiles, industry, and internal trade. In 2020, the government imposed restrictions and prohibitions on the exports of products such as PPE kits, sanitizers, gloves, testing kits, syringes, Remdesivir, and formulations made from paracetamol.

On Wednesday, the health ministry cautioned that the next 40 days will be crucial as there can be an increase in COVID cases across India in January. The government directed that 2% of the passengers arriving from each international flight should be randomly tested for coronavirus starting Saturday.
