On Friday, Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for the growth and adoption of digital healthcare tools in India. He added that the pandemic has highlighted the difficulties that health systems are currently facing, including the need for a comprehensive change in healthcare delivery, route, and infrastructure.

While addressing the audience at the Voice of the Global South Summit 2023, he stated that the proposed G20 global initiative on digital health will bring together scientific expertise, collective best practices, develop digital public health goods, support implementation, and institutionalise the use of digital tools in health service delivery with a specific focus on lower middle-income countries (LMICs).

He stated that the experience of India has confirmed the need to increase the skills of healthcare professionals while also utilising digital technologies. According to him, India has been assisting many nations in this regard by offering specially designed training programmes to help those nations′ healthcare staff become more capable. He pointed out that, with over a thousand participants from Asian and African nations, India organised online training sessions on COVID testing, clinical procedures, case management, vaccine development, and administration.
