In a rare move, the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has directed that girls can claim a 2% additional condonation of absence each semester as menstruation benefits. According to CUSAT regulations, the required attendance rate for each semester is 75%. However, as per the new regulation, the criteria will be lowered to 73%.

On Wednesday, the notification satisfied a long-standing desire of the more than 4,000 female students who are enrolled in several streams, including Ph.D. programs, at CUSAT.

According to the order, "the VC has directed to penalise an additional 2% of the condonation of the attendance deficit to female students in each semester."
