An order stating the investigation of the safety of terminating a 29-week pregnancy was passed by the Supreme Court on Thursday. It ordered the director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi to assemble a committee of medical professionals on Friday to investigate the case.

An unmarried 20-year-old B.Tech student was examined by AIIMS. A bench comprising of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice JB Pardiwala requested that they submit their findings to the court. Additionally, it asked for assistance from the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) for the court. The youngster resides in a hostel in Ghaziabad, and the girls attorney representing her informed the court. According to him, the girl wishes to end the unintended pregnancy, which is about 29 weeks along.

The CJI said in the order, "at this stage, we consider it appropriate to order that the petitioner is to be evaluated by an AIIMS medical board. We direct the director to constitute a medical team on January 20 to consider whether the termination of the pregnancy can be conducted without any threat to the life of the petitioner."

The Supreme Court instructed the chief court registrar to inform the AIIMS director of the directive. After reviewing the AIIMS report, the highest court announced that it would issue the decision on January 23.
