Over the last three years, pharmacists in many countries across the globe have provided medicines to patients, delivered services at home, performed screening tests in the comfort of the patients′ homes, performed vaccinations, and given appropriate advice to all the people. Dr. Dominique Jordan, president of the International Pharmaceutical Federation of the Netherlands, noted that with the passage of time, the role of drug sellers is changing. Hence, they should work as health service providers rather than just as professionals.

Dr. Jordan addressed all the chemists and druggists in his speech held on the concluding day of the 72nd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress organised by the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association and the department of pharmaceutical science at Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University. In this speech themed "Community Pharmacist Scenario: From Global to Local," he stated that in view of increasing competition, pharmacists will have to provide excellent service.

Jordan was the guest of honour, and All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists President Jagannath S. Shinde attended the colloquium as the principal guest. According to Dr. Shinde, there is a rapidly closing gap between the global and local scales, with money and medicine being two examples of shared factors. There is no other way to handle it besides ensuring infrastructure, education, technology utilisation, and better services. He further added that 60% of pharmacists in India are women, and if they are trained, they can provide better services to customers.
