A new article published in Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation reported that chronic kidney disease (CKD), that affects approximately 10% of the global adult population, is one of the top 20 causes of death worldwide. The article emphasized upon the importance of womens kidney health, on the community, and the next generations in an effort to be more curious about the unique aspects of kidney disease in women. This article discussed that pregnancy is a unique state for women, offering an opportunity for the diagnosis of kidney disease, and also a state where acute and chronic kidney diseases may manifest, that may impact future generations with respect to kidney health. It was stated that women on dialysis present with different complications than men and are more likely to be donors than recipients of kidney transplants.
