The Government of India and Department of Pharmaceuticals has drafted a Pharmaceutical Policy, 2017

which is under consideration and is pending approval. HCFI can give its suggestions on the draft policy as one of the policy initiative is one drug one company one and encouraging medical practitioners to prescribe generic name drugs instead of brand names. 

The key objectives of the Policy is to: 

  1. Make essential drugs accessible at affordable prices to the common masses; 
  2. Provide a longer term stable policy environment for the pharmaceutical sector; 
  3. Make India sufficiently self-reliant in end to end indigenous drug manufacturing; 
  4. Ensure world class quality of drugs for domestic consumption & exports; 
  5. Create an environment for R&D to produce innovator drugs;
