According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, women are more likely to experience cardiovascular issues if they have experienced more live births, an earlier first birth, and menarche at a younger age.

The study conducted by researchers from Imperial College London, the University of Cambridge, and the Yale School of Public Health revealed that reproductive variables were associated with a higher risk of atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke in women. However, they were not able to find any association between the age of menopause and cardiovascular disease.

The findings of the study also showed that the increased risk for earlier menarche was associated with a higher body mass index (BMI) in women. Hence, they deduced that reducing the BMI of women could help reduce cardiovascular risk. The researchers also claimed that by addressing standard cardiometabolic risk factors like obesity, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, the elevated risk for an earlier first birth could be somewhat reduced.

The result of the study was based on previous studies involving more than 100,000 women. The findings emphasized the need for clinicians to constantly monitor these risk factors in women and take appropriate action when necessary.
