On Monday, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) announced that they have set retail prices for 74 formulations, including drugs for high blood pressure and diabetes. In accordance with the decision of the 109th authority meeting, which was held on February 21 of this year, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has set the pricing under the Medicines (Price Regulation) Order 2013.

The cost of one extended-release tablet containing Dapagliflozin, Sitagliptin, and Metformin Hydrochloride has been set by the NPPA at Rs 27.75. Telmisartan and Bisoprolol Fumarate tablets are available at the set price of Rs. 10.92 per pill.

According to the NPPA, the ceiling price for 80 scheduled formulations (NLEM 2022), including the one used to treat neutropenia and epilepsy, has also been changed. One pill of sodium valproate, 200 mg, has a set ceiling price of Rs 3.20. Corresponding to that, Rs 1,034.51 has been set as the maximum price for one vial of Filgrastim injection. The price of one pill of the steroid Hydrocortisone (20 mg) is Rs 13.28.

The NPPA is in charge of keeping the costs of bulk pharmaceuticals and formulations under control, as well as enforcing drug costs and accessibility across the country. In order to keep drug prices under control, it also keeps an eye on their costs.
