The ICMR has approved KRIVIDA TRIVUS, created by Chennai-based KRIYA Medical Technologies (Indian Council of Medical Research). The RT-qPCR kit can detect three pathogens: influenza (H1N1, H3N2, Yamagata and Victoria sublineages), SARS CoV2, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The three infections begin with similar symptoms but differ in how the sickness progresses, how quickly it spreads, and how it is treated. The kit assists clinicians and patients in determining which pathogen is causing the respiratory infection, allowing them to choose the best course of therapy.

The KRIVIDA TRIVUS from Kriya detects the exact virus causing a respiratory ailment. Knowing the precise virus causing the infection can assist clinicians in understanding the expected results and how the patient will fare. An infant with SARS-CoV-2, for example, has a decent prognosis, whereas one with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) may suffer severe lung inflammation known as bronchiolitis. If there is a co-infection or numerous viruses present, it may indicate a poor outcome and an increased risk of getting severe pneumonia.

Understanding which virus is causing the infection can help doctors determine the best course of treatment for the patient. For example, if an adult is diagnosed with influenza within the first two days of becoming ill, they can be properly treated with an antiviral medication. If any of the three viruses is discovered, doctors can counsel patients to forgo drugs, which can help prevent antibiotic resistance from spreading. The kit can assist healthcare providers in staying current on the existing burden of respiratory infections and being prepared for any new ones that may emerge.
