Sanofi (India) announced on Monday that the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization had granted marketing authorization for its antidiabetic drug Soliqua (in a pre-filled pen).

Soliqua improves glycemic control in persons with obesity and type 2 diabetes whose sugar levels are poorly controlled by oral or injectable treatments. It is available as once-daily pre-filled pens with a fixed-ratio mix of 10-40 and 30-60 insulin glargine and lixisenatide.

Cyrus Aibara, head Diabetes Business Unit, Sanofi (India), said that with approximately 74 million Indians between the ages of 20-79 years living with diabetes, healthcare professionals need more treatment options to customize diabetes portfolio (OADs and insulins) indicated for people with obesity who are living with insufficiently controlled diabetes.

Dr. Shalini Menon, Country Medical. Lead, Sanofi (India) stated that the worldwide Solimix study which included Indian patients, indicated that once-daily Soliqua gives weight benefits and fewer hypoglycemia when compared to twice daily premixed insulin, making it a beneficial option for endocrinologists.
