The Rajasthan chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has appealed to its national office-bearers to support the strike against the Right to Health Bill (RTH) and announce a one-day national bandh of healthcare services. The bandh was requested to pressurize the state government into rolling back the bill as people in need of medical care continue to suffer throughout the state, which entered its 15th day on Sunday.

To put pressure on the government about the RTH Bill, the chapter has also requested that it send a group of observers to the state, according to Dr. Sunil Chugh, president of the IMAs Rajasthan branch. He added that the head of the IMA chapter in Haryana has extended support to the doctors in Rajasthan and announced a daylong bandh on April 4 in the state.

Also, the Governor of Rajasthan, Mr. Kalraj Mishra, expressed his objections to the RTH Bill. In Jaipur on Sunday, doctors and their family members participated in a rally against the bill, which was still in effect despite the state-wide comprehensive medical bandh that had been in effect for 15 days. The resident doctors of medical colleges also continued their strike.

Dr. Vijay Kapoor, secretary of the Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Society (PHNHS), stated that the government has become so callous that it did not even care for Dr. Khandelwal, who was on a fast unto death. He revealed that 212 private hospitals in Jaipur and many more in other districts have given formal approval to end the governments health programs in their facilities.
