According to sources from the Indian health ministry, it was reported that tests on samples of eye drops produced by Global Pharma Healthcare, an Indian company, which have been connected to three deaths and blindness in some patients in the U.S., showed no contamination.

A test conducted by Indian agencies revealed that the samples were of "standard quality," after U.S. agencies had recommended against using the artificial tear eye drops, citing potential contamination by drug-resistant bacteria. Earlier, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed that the company had voluntarily recalled the product from stores in February owing to potential contamination.

They added that the company had broken good manufacturing procedures. As of March 14, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had discovered "a rare strain of extensively drug-resistant" bacteria in 68 people across 16 states, the majority of whom had used artificial tear eye drops. The data from the CDC shows that there have been at least three fatalities, eight incidents of eyesight loss, and four reports of eyeball removal surgery.
