The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is conducting a study to determine the relationship between the abrupt increase in cardiac arrest mortality and COVID-19. The studys findings are anticipated in two months.

The Union Health Minister had stated that the study would take six more months to complete in order to determine whether there is any link between COVID-19 and heart attacks during Chintan Shivir on December 22 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The ICMR team that is conducting this study includes several scientists, like Dr. Nivedita and Dr. Tanveer Kaur. Nevertheless, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, a former chief scientist for the World Health Organisation (WHO), stated in February that it is widely known that COVID-19 infection increases the risk of heart attacks, diabetes, and strokes.
